Pensacola-Area Trails
UWF Nature Trails (very extensive network of trails for walkers and mountain bikers; the largest area of unimproved trails northwest of campus is mapped here)
Gulf Islands National Seashore (many trails are available in the various park units in Florida and Mississippi, with the most extensive at Naval Live Oaks; zoomable maps of these units can be accessed here)
Big Lagoon State Park (a nice loop trail crossing a range of native habitats; fee area)
Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park (boardwalk trail with great views of pitcher plants in season)
Clear Creek Nature Trail (boardwalk trail with great floodplain access featuring pitcher plants in season)
Bay Bluffs Preserve (short but steep hiking trails and boardwalk adjacent to Pensacola Bay; managed by the City of Pensacola)
Blackwater River State Park (good assortment of trails crossing multiple native habitats along the river and adjacent uplands; connects with longer trails extending outside the park)
Bear Lake Campground (nice loop trail through the woods around this large artificial lake; managed by the Florida Forest Service)
Historic Blakeley State Park (extensive hiking trails through tall forests and Confederate earthworks; just an hour away in Alabama)
Blackwater Heritage State Trail (nine-mile long improved trail along the historic Florida & Atlantic railroad line)
Eglin AFB Reservation (hiking trails accessible by permit, and only when sections are not off-limits due to military activities)
