Trying out LaTeX
It might be a good idea to try out LaTeX before going through the process of installing it. Overleaf is a good resources for getting started and is convenient because you can use your Google login.

WikiBooks has a fantastic book free for use. You can learn to do most things by taking a look at it.
Installing LaTeX
There are two steps to installing LaTeX:
- Installing the "backend"
- Installing an editor
Note that the "backend" is usually a big download and can be time consuming.
Windows
To install LaTeX in Windows you will need to download MiKTeX.
Mac OS
To install LaTeX in Windows you will need to download MacTeX.
Linux
Installing LaTeX in linux is can be done using the package manager or manually at the command line. The package necessary to install LaTeX is called texlive.
Command line instructions:
- Debian: apt-get install texlive
- Redhat: yum install texlive
