ENC-ENGLISH COMPOSITION

ENC 1101        English Composition I . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Guided practice in critical thinking and the writing process for various rhetorical situations. Documented paper is included. Requires additional work in the Writing Center. (Gordon Rule Course: Wrtg) and (General Studies Course: COM/C1) Material and supply fee will be assessed. Note that some sections of ENC 1101 and 1102 are arranged as Writing Circles in which students meet once a week in a large group for theory and lecture/discussion and once a week in a small group of writing workshops and further discussion of course materials

ENC 1101L      English Composition I Lab . . . . . 1(F,S)
Lab to accompany ENC 1101. (Gordon Rule Course: Wrtg) Material and supply fee will be assessed

ENC 1102        English Composition II . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisite: ENC 1101
Continuation of ENC 1101, with emphasis on complexities of style and rhetorical strategies. Documented paper is included. Course requires additional work in the Writing Center. (Gordon Rule Course: Wrtg), and (General Studies Course: COM. C2). Material and supply fee will be assessed. ENC 3240        Technical Writing . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Practice in preparing documents used in science, business, industry, and government, including letters, manuals, reports and proposals. (Gordon Rule Course: Wrtg) Material and supply fee will be assessed

ENC 3250        Professional Writing . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisite: Grade of “C” in both ENC 1101 and ENC 1102
Professional writing course relevant in business, industry, government, and other institutional settings; major elements of written organizational communication with emphasis on composition of letters, memos, proposals, etc. (Gordon Rule Course: Wrtg) Material and supply fee will be assessed

ENC 3310        Advanced Critical Writing . . . . . 3(F,S)
Prerequisite: ENC 1101 and ENC 1102
Development of writing skills particular to the study of literature and literary criticism. English majors and minors only. Material and supply fee will be assessed. Permission is required. (Gordon Rule Course: Wrtg)

ENC 3342     Magazine Editing and Production . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
Workshop in the principles and practice of editing poetry/fiction manuscripts for publication in The Panhandler, a national literary magazine. Experience in computer layout (desktop publishing). Students produce two issues of the magazine

ENC 4XXX       Writing and Editing Internship . . . . . 3-6(F,S,SS)
Prerequisites: ENC 3310
Students will be involved in all aspects of publishing magazines, brochures, and newspapers. They will research assigned topics, conduct interview, write feature articles, edit and proof-read articles, and participate in editorial discussions

ENC 5XXX Topics in Rhetoric . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
Examination of various topics in rhetoric, composition and/or pedagogy as they apply to the history, theory, analysis, and/or practice of rhetoric. Topics change each term. Contact department or instructor for specific topic
