Basic three-dimensional form design. Introduction to the concepts by which shape, texture value, color, various materials and surfaces are used to evolve 3D form in art. Introduction to various printmaking techniques possibly including block printing, calligraphy, monotype, etching and engraving. Content varies according to instructor. Prerequisite for all other printmaking courses. Invites all students

Students will study paint, color, the tools to use and how to use them. The student is instructed to paint using still life, landscapes, possibly figures, and other objects/subjects. ART 2600C       Computer Imaging I . . . . . 3(F,S)
Using the computer and its applications as a creative tool in the process of making art. Designed as a “fine arts” class, as opposed to a course stressing computer graphics. Explores the creative uses involved in and issues surrounding computer generated imagery. Exposes students to a variety of computer imagery and ideas providing a contemporary view of the digital image in art today. Material and supply fee will be assessed

In-depth exposure to appropriate fabrication methods in three- dimensional materials including wood, metal, and stone. Beginning hands-on investigation of formal issues in conjunction with contemporary art concepts. Required (or equivalent) for all students who plan to continue with sculpture. Prerequisite: ART 1300C, ART 1301C, ART 2201C
A class in image manipulation with emphasis on photographic and digital techniques, and how they may relate and enhance the quality of your personal work. It is a class designed for student artists who are interested in learning how to manipulate photographic and computer created images into their own artwork both as a process and as a finished product. You will learn how to manipulate and control equipment and images, how to work back and forth between the darkroom, the computer, and the appropriate studio for your work

An exploration into the world of collage and assemblage. Found materials, drawings, fabrics, natural objects may be unified and explored in both a 2D and 3D environment. Historical context of both collage and assemblage will be studied and expanded upon

Drawing for Non-Majors is for beginning artists who want to improve their drawing skills. Emphasizes composition, line, proportion, perspective, value, shading, and introduces color. Students will explore the technical handling of different types of materials through exercises and finished drawings

Exploration in the technical aspects of craft media with emphasis on ceramics, fiber, and metalwork processes. Required of Studio Art majors working toward Teacher Certification. Credit may not be earned in both ART 3193C and ART 3104C

Advanced jewelry making techniques building on those learned in Small Metals I. Processes covered will include forging, casting and laminations of metal. Material and supply fee will be assessed. Credit may not be earned in both ART 3151C and ART 3152C

Prerequisite: ART 1300C, ART 1301C, and ART 2201C
Required of all art majors. Reviews fundamentals. Develops individuality through observational and conceptual experiences/projects. Introduces some color media. Permission is required. Material and supply fee will be assessed

Individual development in media, technique and concept will be stressed. Possibilities of painting other then easel painting will be presented. Investigation and experimentation responding to situations and projects is required

Discussion and exploration into a variety of printmaking techniques unique to the intaglio process. The philosophical and functional aspects of the course will be cultivated

ART 3610C       Computer Imaging II:  Image Manipulation . . . . . 3(F,S)
Prerequisite: ART 2600C
An intermediate course in image manipulation with emphasis on Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia SoundEdit 16, and Apple iMovie. Designed for photographers, photo-illustrators, artists, and others who are interested in learning how to manipulate photographic and computer created images into finished art pieces or as material to integrate into multimedia projects in the future. Students will learn how to manipulate images and the viewer, how sound can manipulate the interpretation of an image, and how to manipulate still images into a moving image. Material and supply fee will be assessed

Variety of handforming processes including throwing on the potters wheel. Deals with basic glazing and firing techniques. Invites all students. Material and supply fee will be assessed. Credit may not be earned in both ART 3110C and ART 3760C

ART 3764C       Ceramics: Handbuilding . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisite: ART 3760C
Handbuilding techniques. Deals with clay in terms of functional as well as free-form design. Covers a broad range of technical information. Material and supply fee will be assessed. Credit may not be earned in both ART 3111C and ART 3764C

ART 3930    Special Topics in Painting and Drawing . . . . . 1-9(SS)
Unique topics concerning painting and drawing. Students should have background of fundamentals in painting and/or drawing. Assignments will vary

ART 3948    Service Learning Field Study II . . . . . 1-3(F,S,SS)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and agency. Students and faculty “customize” courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required. With the agreement of the student’s faculty sponsor, a minimum of 6-8 hours per week must be done at the field site per semester hour of credit. Permission is required

ART 4XXXC     Conceptual Exploration in Mixed Print Media . . . . . 3(F)
Prerequisite: ART 1300C, ART 1301C, ART 2201C, ART 3XXXC (Digital Photo Image Exploration)
Advanced course designed for emerging artists interested in manipulating and combining digital imagery, photography, and traditional printmaking, both as a process and as a finished product. Students must have prior studio experience in two of the three areas mentioned

Unique topics concerning painting for the upper level or advanced student. Students should have an extensive background in the fundamentals of painting, drawing, and design, as well as an advanced knowledge of ideas/ concepts in contemporary painting

Prerequisite: ART 1300C, ART 1301C, ART 2201C, ART 2203C, ART 2701C
Focused research into advanced specialized sculptural processes not normally covered within the normal sculpture course offerings. Processes covered are dependent upon direction of work. Contemporary art concepts are an integral part of this class. For advanced upper-level students only

Exploration into variations of the enameling medium using a variety of techniques including cloisonne, limoges, basse-taille and champleve. Emphasis will be placed on the use of color theory and two-dimensional design and their relationship to the three-dimensional object. Material and supply fee will be assessed

Prerequisite: ART 3312C
While there is a continuation of the development of many of the concepts of drawing from ART 3312C, this course is dedicated to the study of life drawing concepts. The human figure will be the primary subject matter. Extensive experimentation and exploration of drawing media use in relation to the figure will be stressed. Permission is required. Material and supply fee will be assessed

ART 4333C       Drawing V – Advanced . . . . . 3(F,S)
Prerequisite: ART 4320C
Use of classroom/studio situation to direct the student towards independent study. Student will be required to participate in the structuring of projects and experiences that demand individual investigation and development. Material and supply fee will be assessed. Credit may not be earned in both ART 4332C and ART 4333C

ART 4506C       Painting IV-Advanced . . . . . 3(F,S)
Prerequisite: ART 3405C
Use of the classroom/studio to direct the student in independent study. Students will be required to initiate the structuring of projects and experiences and to pursue them with individual development and investigation. Credit may not be earned in both ART 4532C and ART 4506C

ART 4618C       Digital Multimedia I . . . . . 3(S)
Prerequisite: ART 3610C
An advanced class in computer-based media with emphasis on Adobe ImageReady, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Adobe GoLive. Students will explore how interactive modes of viewership affect artwork. Students will create web based art pieces, incorporating manipulated images, animations, sound, and video into a finished website. Credit may not be earned in both ART 4680C and ART 4618C. Material and supply fee will be assessed

ART 4619C       Digital Multimedia II . . . . . 3(S)
Prerequisite: ART 4618C
An intensive advanced class in multimedia, with emphasis on Macromedia Flash and Director. Students will create interactive websites, CD-ROMs, and DVDs, using skills from Photoshop, ImageReady, Dreamweaver, GoLive, Sound Edit 16 and iMovie, which will then be incorporated into Flash and Director. A very labor intensive course, designed for highly motivated, self-disciplined students. Credit may not be earned in both ART 4682C and ART 4619C. Material and supply fee will be assessed

ART 4630C       Artist’s Video . . . . . 3(F)
Prerequisite: ART 2600C, ART 3610C
An intermediate class in Digital Video with an emphasis in Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut Pro as the primary tools for digital manipulation of video. Geared towards studying and producing risk-taking video based in a fine arts tradition. The focus is on work by artists and independent producers who aim to produce poetic, penetrating, passionate alternatives to the ideas and images seen in modernist art, mainstream entertainment, advertising, and network news. Material and supply fee will be assessed

Advanced concepts in translating digital media from the virtual world to the tangible. Students choose projects with emphasis on integration of traditional fine art media, with digital media or digital media into the business/commercial realm. Permission is required. Investigation of individual visual direction through refined technical and content-based research. Continuing exposure to contemporary visual issues and research into postmodernism. Research in processes and appropriate fabrication of molds, plaster and plastics

Prerequisite: ART 4706C
Third course. A continuation of three-dimensional problems with an emphasis on specific materials and techniques, some on a larger than life scale. Credit may not be earned in both ART 4703C and ART 4710C

ART 4730C       Sculpture IV . . . . . 3(F,S)
Prerequisite: ART 4710C
Fourth course. An advanced level study in sculpture in a specific process with its related materials stressing craftsmanship and strong visual concepts. Credit may not be earned in both ART 4740C and ART 4730C

ART 4787C       Ceramics: Personal Directions . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisite: ART 3764C
Design and the development of individual expression in clay. Student has a choice of forming techniques. Covers advanced firing and glazing techniques. Material and supply fee will be assessed. Credit may not be earned in both ART 4760C and ART 4787C

ART 4800C       BFA Seminar I . . . . . 1(S)
All elements of the BFA program, it’s procedures, processes and requirements will be the primary emphasis. Early preparation for Seminar II will also begin as students will do all research related to graduate schools, the application process and preparation of all support materials. Initial exploration into the business of the art world will be explored

ART 4890C       BFA Seminar II . . . . . 1(S)
Prerequisite: ART 4800C
All aspects of the art world business, surviving in it and succeeding will be explored and discussed. Students will complete their graduate school application packages. Committee meetings and reviews will continue. Initial planning towards the BFA exit show will be discussed and begun

ART 4941C       BFA Seminar III . . . . . 1(F,S)
Prerequisite: ART 4800C, ART 4890C
Committee meetings and reviews will continue. All additional aspects of the art world and surviving in it will be explored and discussed. Students will execute all related work towards completing a successful senior BFA exit show

ART 4947    Museum or Gallery Practicum . . . . . 1-3(F,S,SS)
Practical experience in organizing museum and gallery exhibitions. Includes promotion, finance, grantsmanship, space design and other related issues. Practicums may be arranged with the Pensacola Museum of Art, The University Gallery or other recognized institutions. Permission is required
