INR-International Relations INR 2002 International Politics . . . . . 3(F,S,SS) Sources and processes of conflict and cooperation among nation-states. (General Studies Course: SS/SOC) Meets Multicultural requirement. INR 3XXX Model United Nations . . . . . 3(F,S,SS) Students will learn the theory behind the founding, the history, the organization, and the parliamentary procedures of the United Nations. During in-class simulations, they learn to represent the University of West Florida at local or regional Model United Nations conferences, where they would be required to be "in-character," representing the views of their assigned country rather than their own. Requires extensive preparation and research. INR 3XX1 Issues in International Politics . . . . . 3(F,S,SS) Current controversies in international affairs, e.g., terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, collective security and peacekeeping, depletion of fisheries and other ocean resources, refugee flows and mass migrations, and globalization will be researched, discussed, and reported on. INR 3006 Conflict, Violence and Peace . . . . . 3(F,S,SS) Conflict and violence which characterizes domestic politics of many nations. Focus on rebellions, revolutions, and coups. Gandhi's model of peaceful resolution of conflict. Meets Multicultural requirement. INR 3016 International Political Issues . . . . . 3(F,S,SS) Current issues, such as Islamic fundamentalism, US relations with China, global economic integration, the relevance of nuclear weapons in today's world, immigration problems, population control, and the international efforts of nationalism, are a few of the many issues that will be dealt with through discussion in class. Background information and differences of opinion on the issues are presented in the text through the writings of individuals knowledgeable on the various subjects. Although this is primarily a discussion course, brief, relevant lectures emphasizing some of the basics of American foreign policy and international politics will be woven into the discussions. INR 3102 American Foreign Policy . . . . . 3(F) Factors shaping American Foreign Policy in contemporary contexts; emphasis will be placed on the administration of American foreign policy and diplomacy. INR 3225 Vietnam and American Politics . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT) The Vietnam War and its impact upon the political experience and social values of the United States. INR 4334 National Security Policy . . . . . 3(S) Definition of national values and threats to those values and their sources; design of appropriate measures to meet threats; methods for implementing these measures and the problems which inevitably arise over conflict between perceptions, values and actions.
