ELD 4850 Instructional Strategies for Teaching Students with Specific Learning Disabilities . . . . . 3(F,S)
Prerequisite: EMR 4212 or EED 4230. Pre/Corequisite: EMR 4945 or EED 4944.
Students develop the skills necessary to effectively teach learning disabled students. There are three areas of emphasis in the course: the diagnosis of student learning and behavior problems, procedures for implementing and evaluating educational programs appropriate for learning disabled students, and the development and implementation of behavior management and precision teaching skills. Students completing this course, therefore, will be prepared to precisely diagnose student learning problems and implement effective individualized instructional and behavioral management programs.

Corequisite: Student Teaching.
Three contact hours per semester hour of credit in unit for children with learning disorders. Demonstration of ability to write curriculum prescriptions and individualize instruction required.

Addresses curriculum, materials, technologies and other resources available to teach students with learning disabilities. Also addresses how curriculum from various content areas be integrated.

Development, administration and scoring of group and individual tests for determining scope and depth of educational achievement as well as formal and informal tests of specific abilities and behaviors which relate to or constitute prerequisites to educational programs. Students develop proficiency in the development and use of tests and rating scales for learning disabled children.
