SYA 3300 Methods of Social Research . . . . . 3(F)
Theory and methodology of research; experience in design and implementation of research; evaluation of current techniques; collecting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting data.

SYA 4000 Theory and Methods in the Social Sciences . . . . . 3(F)
Primarily aimed at and required for SSI majors in the Education Track, surveys convergencies and divergences in the theoretical perspectives social scientists currently favor. The survey course also surveys the quantitative and qualitative methods social scientists use. At least 12 semester hours of upper level social science (including history) and permission is required.

SYA 4110 History of Sociological Thought . . . . . 3(S)
Theories of society and human behavior expressed in writing of outstanding social philosophers; analysis of central theoretical questions of sociology.

SYA 4120 Contemporary Sociological Theory . . . . . 3(F)
Major theoretical issues in modern sociology. Material drawn from major recent authorities.

SYA 4650 Sociology in Practice . . . . . 3(F)
Examination of the application of sociology in business, government and the professions. Special attention given to ethical issues in sociological practice.

SYA 4940 Internship . . . . . 1-3(F,S,SS)
Placement in community agency or other social or organizational setting. Supervision by faculty or agency. Student participates in full range of services available in the setting. An internship paper is required. A maximum of 3 sh may be applied to the major requirements. Permission is required.

SYA 4970 Senior Thesis . . . . . 1-3(F,S,SS)
Thesis is broadly defined to include research projects (which may be replications), theoretical treatises and case studies. Permission is required.
