Sources and processes of conflict and cooperation among nation-states. (General Studies Course: SS/SOC)

INR 3XXX International Political Issues . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Current issues, such as Islamic fundamentalism, US relations with China, global economic integration, the relevance of nuclear weapons in today's world, immigration problems, population control, and the international efforts of nationalism, are a few of the many issues that will be dealt with through discussion in class. Background information and differences of opinion on the issues are presented in the text through writings of individuals knowledgeable on the various subjects. Although this is primarily a discussion course, brief, relevant lectures emphasizing some of the basics of American foreign policy and international politics are woven into the discussions.

INR 3006 Conflict, Violence and Peace . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Conflict and violence which characterizes domestic politics of many nations. Focus on rebellions, revolutions, and coups. Gandhi's model of peaceful resolution of conflict.

INR 3102 American Foreign Policy . . . . . 3(F)
Factors shaping American Foreign Policy in contemporary contexts; emphasis will be placed on the administration of American foreign policy and diplomacy.

INR 3225 Vietnam and American Politics . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
Vietnam War and its impact upon the political experience and social values of the United States.

INR 3949 Cooperative Education . . . . . 1-2(F,S,SS)
Alternating full-time or consecutive parallel terms of practical experience in the intended field. Reinforcing academic preparation; confirming education and career goals; personal and professional development; early start in career; earnings toward self-support; improved employability. (See program description under Cooperative Education). Graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis only. Permission of Director of Cooperative Education is required.

INR 4334 National Security Policy . . . . . 3(S)
Definition of national values and threats to those values and their sources; design of appropriate measures to meet threats; methods for implementing these measures and the problems which inevitably arise over conflict between perceptions, values and actions. Applications of political violence and nonviolence. Offered concurrently with INR 5330; graduate students will be assigned additional work.

Nature, history and trends of legal controls on international behavior; conflict between theory and practice; cases will be used to illustrate various points of law.
