Current issues, such as Islamic fundamentalism, US relations with China,
global economic integration, the relevance of nuclear weapons in today's world,
immigration problems, population control, and the international efforts of
nationalism, are a few of the many issues that will be dealt with through
discussion in class. Background information and differences of opinion on the
issues are presented in the text through writings of individuals knowledgeable
on the various subjects. Although this is primarily a discussion course, brief,
relevant lectures emphasizing some of the basics of American foreign policy and
international politics are woven into the discussions.

will be placed on the administration of American foreign policy and diplomacy.

nonviolence. Offered concurrently with INR 5330; graduate students will be
