Consideration of career opportunities in the field of education, including clinical experiences in selected agencies/institutions.

EDF 3XXX Applied Foundations of Education . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisite: EDF 1005, EDG 2701, and PSY 2012, or DEP 2004 (DEP 2003).
Principles of growth, development and learning in the context of teaching in the schools of today. Methods of formal and informal assessment, measurement and evaluation are addressed and the ability to analyze educational phenomena in America and other countries from interpretive, normative and critical perspectives is developed. May include observation/participation in educational settings. Admission to Teacher Education is required.

EDF 3214 Psychological Foundations of Learning and Teaching . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Principles of growth, development and learning applied to teaching. Methods of formal and informal assessment, measurement and evaluation. May include observation/participation in educational settings. General psychology or equivalent and Admission to Teacher Education is required.

EDF 3604 Social, Multicultural, Historical, and Philosophical Foundations of Education . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Will help students to realize that they are empowered persons and professionals and to examine the school as a social institution, its processes, and ideals in a cross-disciplinary fashion that is critical in orientation, (i.e., sharpening critical thinking skills). By enhancing teacher education students' ability to analyze educational phenomena in America, and other countries, from interpretive, normative, and critical perspectives, their explanatory frameworks of the school as social and multicultural institutions in a democratic society will improve, and on the basis of critical study and their own reflection, they will be able to expand themselves in a variety of situations and circumstances. Admission to Teacher Education is required. Credit may not be earned in both EDF 3605 and EDF 3604.

EDF 5404 Introduction to Applied Educational Research Statistics . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Enables graduate students to apply basic descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to solve educational research problems. The concepts introduced and the software employed are designed to be useful for solving school site based educational problems. State incentive programs and accountability legislation in Florida make these skills important for competing for school funding in the 1990's.

EDF 5460 Classroom Assessment Strategies . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
Enables students to apply knowledge and skills in designing and administering classroom assessment strategies. Students will integrate learning, measurement, and evaluation theories to design traditional and alternative classroom assessment procedures.

EDF 6133 Pre-Early Adolescent Development . . . . . 3(F)
Examines the developmental changes that occur during pre- and early adolescence. Of particular interest will be the biological, cognitive, and social changes that occur during the middle school years. The genetic and environmental influences on these developmental processes will be examined and will be described in terms of their relationship to the positive or negative developmental outcome. May not be taken for credit by students having credit for DEP 4304. Permission is required. Credit may not be earned in both EDF 6132 and EDF 6133.

EDF 6211 Application of Psychological Theories to Current Issues of Student Development and Learning . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Introduces graduate students to the basic theories of educational psychology. An emphasis will be placed on psychological theories and applications of development and learning.

EDF 6218 Current Issues in Student Development and Learning . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisites: EDF 3214.
Examines issues in human development and learning and their influence on educational practice. An emphasis will be placed on societal changes, including the changing family, environmental risk factors, achievement and gender differences, socioeconomic differences, multiculturalism, exceptionalities, and the impact of technology on the individual.

EDF 6475 Qualitative Research Methods in Education . . . . . 3(S,SS)
Enables graduate students to comprehend and apply new research paradigms, strategies, and techniques to solve and understand educational problems. The qualitative research concepts and theories introduces alternative methods for studying social and cultural settings. Alternative qualitative research strategies provide teachers and administrators with necessary skills for understanding social change and educational complexities.

EDF 6481 Educational Research . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisite: STA 2023.
Develops skills for evaluating and for conducting applied research studies in an appropriate area of emphasis. Includes strategies of research appropriate for particular area of emphasis and methods appropriate for those strategies. Students are required to select problems, plan research studies, and write research proposals. Students intending to meet SDOE certification requirements should indicate specialization interests by selecting a suffix. Specialization areas are: (a) early childhood/primary education, (b) middle school education, (d) secondary school education, and (e) exceptional student education.

EDF 6602 Trends and Issues in Education: Social, Multicultural, Historical and Philosophical Analysis . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisite: EDF 3604.
Enables students to develop skills as empowered persons and professionals and use critical and analytical thinking skills to demonstrate an understanding of the history and philosophy of education and an increased awareness of multicultural and other critical issues in education.

EDF 6608 Educational Theories and Practices: Social, Multicultural, Historical, and Philosophical Analyses . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Introduces graduate students to the basic theories of educational philosophies. Broadens and deepens awareness of theories utilized in current educational settings. Topics include: the relationship between school and society; multiculturalism in education; historical influences on education; roles of educational philosophies; and effective applications for teaching and learning.

EDF 6725 Critical Issues in American Education . . . . . 3(S)
Major issues in American education which confront educational leaders. Problems growing from these issues are considered.

EDF 7191 Educational Foundations: A Psychological Analysis . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Prerequisite: EDF 6218.
Course will analyze, synthesize and apply theories from human development and learning which have implications for issues facing educators today and in the future. An emphasis will be placed on merging theories with contemporary educational issues and practices through the use of relevant research reviews culminating in the design of an educational program or research project.

EDF 7407 Educational Research Statistics . . . . . 3(F,S)
Prerequisite: EDF 5404.
Promotes more appropriate techniques to facilitate the interpretation of collections of qualitative or numerical data. Emphasis is on developing knowledge of the appropriate technique to select for a given purpose and given set of data.

EDF 7489 Advanced Research Methods . . . . . 5(CALL DEPT)
Prerequisite: EDF 5404 and EDF 6481.
Enables students to apply and interpret current social and behavioral science research in educational or organizational settings. Students will be taught how to design and evaluate the use of quantitative and qualitative approaches in practical and applied research settings.

EDF 7685 Educational Foundations: A Philosophical and Multicultural Analysis . . . . . 3(F,S)
Prerequisite: EDF 6602.
Aims to broaden and deepen students' awareness of various educational philosophies and their influences in everyday classroom practice. Emphasis will be on the pluralism and diversity of educational ideas, the practical implication of such ideas, development of critical and analytical thinking and open-mindedness.
