ARH 2051 Art History Survey II: Greek to Renaissance Art . . . . . 3(S)
Analyzes the western aesthetic heritage within its cultural context from the origins of Greek art through the late Renaissance era. Required for all art majors. Satisfies the lower division requirement, ARH 1050. (Gordon Rule Course: Writing) and (General Studies Course: HUM/FA)

ARH 2401 Art History Survey I: Ancient Western and Non-Western Worlds . . . . . 3(S)
Analyzes the major artistic developments of Western art from cave painting through Egyptian and Near Eastern art. Investigates the aesthetic heritage of Africa, Asia, and the New World. Required for all art majors. Satisfies the lower division requirement, ARH 1050. (General Studies Course: HUM/FA)

ARH 2411 Art History Survey III: Baroque to Contemporary Art . . . . . 3(F)
Analyzes the western aesthetic heritage within its cultural context from the seventeenth century to the present. Required for all art majors. Satisfies the lower division requirement, ARH 1050. (General Studies Course: HUM/FA) Credit may not be earned in both ARH 2410 and ARH 2411.

Provides advanced instruction in the use of library resources for researching topics in art. Required for all art majors.

ARH 3804 Writing about Art . . . . . 1(CALL DEPT)
Corequisite: ARH 3803.
Addresses various applications of critical writing, with emphasis on formal analysis, comparative essays, and research papers. Required for art history and BFA majors.

ARH 3830C Museum/Gallery Studies . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
An introduction into some of the theoretical and practical aspects of museum/gallery management. Material and supply fee will be assessed.

ARH 4302 Late Renaissance Art in Italy . . . . . 3(S)
Prerequisite: ARH 2051 and ARH 2401.
Examines the achievements of Italian artists and architects during the Cinquecento, including the art of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, Bramante and other noted masters. Offered concurrently with ARH 5314; graduate students will be assigned additional work.

ARH 4835 Museum/Gallery Studies Practicum . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
Prerequisite: ARH 3830C.
Continuing study of theoretical and practical aspects of museum/gallery management through placement in a nonprofit museum or gallery. Students participate in full range of activities available in the setting, but are also expected to complete a specific museum/gallery project. Offered concurrently with ARH 5836; graduate students will be assigned additional work. Permission is required.

Critical examination of the major studies that shaped past and current opinion in an area of art history elected by the students. Advanced students only. Permission is required.

ARH 4910 Research in Art History . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Provides the advanced art history student with an opportunity to design and execute an original research project, one which ideally leads to publication or implementation. Two 4000 level art history courses and completion of all basic surveys are required prior to taking this course. Permission is required.

Corequisite: ARH 3803 and ARH 3804.
Examines the changing perspectives and influence that have affected the discipline, from Vasari's biographical approach to the post-structuralism of the New Art History. Required for art history majors.

ARH 4955 Museum, Gallery, or Foreign Study Program . . . . . 1-6 (CALL DEPT)
Deeper understanding of works of art through a direct study of originals. Credit may be given for independent study or course work completed at recognized museums, galleries, foreign universities, or study-abroad programs. Advanced students only.
