Survey of travel and tourism with focus on history, terminology, demographics, psychographic, financial significance, destination planning and development, trends and societal impacts.

LEI 4300 Leisure Services . . . . . 3(F)
Analysis of leisure service organizations dealing with management, finances and accounting, records and reports, publicity and public relations, risk management, staff organization, leadership training, and coordination of community resources.

LEI 4400 Leisure Programming . . . . . 4(S)
Principles of leisure program development and study of program areas and activities. Analysis of the methods and techniques of program design, organization, implementation, and evaluation.

LEI 4574 Park, Recreation, Tourism and Leisure Marketing . . . . . 3(S)
An analysis of the marketing process as it relates to park, recreation, tourism and leisure services. Target and service marketing; strategic marketing planning; marketing research; current issues; future trends and marketing opportunities. Upper level status is required.

LEI 4602C Recreation and Resort Planning and Design . . . . . 4(S)
Examination of the fundamental concepts, the specific principles, and the process of planning and designing recreation and resort facilities, including visitor attractions. Students spend lab time working individually and in teams to design recreation and resort facilities or visitor attractions that fulfill travel/recreation expectations, operate graciously in the community, and function efficiently to realize profit. Upper level status is required.

LEI 4802 Outdoor Leisure . . . . . 4(F,S,SS)
Survey of issues affecting outdoor leisure in America from a conservation/environmental perspective; and the effective communication of outdoor leisure values. Analysis of leadership skills associated with outdoor leisure activities. Material and supply fee will be assessed.

LEI 4804 Outdoor-Environmental Education for Elementary and Middle Schools . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Students will be assigned on an individual basis, to elementary and middle schools and have responsibility for planning, organizing, and implementing nature walks on the UWF campus with student groups. Permission of instructor is required.

LEI 4834 Sport, Adventure and Ecotourism . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Discussion of the concepts, theories and issues relevant to the development of tourism, with an emphasis on sport, adventure and nature based tourism. Examination of the challenges and practices associated with the planning and development of tourism, marketing strategies, funding, government involvement, financing of the infrastructure, event organization, contracts, public relation strategies and career opportunities. Introduction and overview of tourism "niches" including festivals, special events, urban, rural, cultural, peace and educational tourism. Upper level status is required.

LEI 4835 Community Tourism Development . . . . . 3(F)
Examines the relationship between tourism development and host communities. Students study the positive and negative economic, social, environmental and political implications of tourism development. The role of natural and man-made attractions, theme parks, convention and sports facilities as catalysts to tourism development. Issues of community participation in tourism planning and managing the tourism/ community relationships. Upper level status is required. Material and supply fee will be assessed.

LEI 4845 Commercial Recreation and Special Event Tourism . . . . . 3(SS)
Examines commercial (private) recreation and special events tourism as important and expanding sub-segments within the total recreation delivery system. Studies career opportunities that exist in management, sales, customer relations, promotions, program and event delivery in a wide range of venues from corporate settings to theme parks, to entrepreneurial enterprises.

LEI 4922 Field Experience in Leisure . . . . . 6(F,S,SS)
Directed field experience in a leisure service agency under the supervision of a faculty advisor and an agency supervisor. Opportunities are provided for the student to develop knowledge, values, and beginning practice skills appropriate for entry-level practice in leisure service agencies. Total of 120 hours required. Graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis only. Special permission is required.

LEI 4940 Internship in Leisure . . . . . 9(F,S,SS)
Students, in a ten-week program, have the opportunity to relate theory to practice through observation and experience. Students will be assigned, on an individual basis, to an approved agency and have responsibilities of organizing and implementing activities in events under supervision with the respective agency. Graded on satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis only. Total of 360 hours required, senior standing, completion of field experience and permission of academic advisor and department is required.

LEI 6940 Internship in Leisure . . . . . 9(F,S,SS)
Special permission is required.
