The Interdisciplinary Humanities program is designed for those who wish a broad preparation in the humanities rather than a specialization in one discipline. It is appropriate for those entering students who are not certain which single humanities discipline they wish to elect as a major. While flexible, this program requires concentration in at least three humanities disciplines.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
In addition to general University requirements, students seeking the B.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities must meet the requirements listed below. Course descriptions are listed alphabetically by prefix in the back of this catalog.

INTERDISCIPLINARY HUMANITIES FINE ARTS SPECIALIZATION
The major in Interdisciplinary Humanities-Fine Arts (IH-IFA) provides an interdisciplinary and collaborative perspective on the fine and performing arts emphasizing aspects that unify the arts in culture and society. It is designed for students who would like to gain a well-rounded insight into the arts, expand their involvement in and knowledge of the fine arts, and prepare for further study or occupation in the field. This approach prepares students for a wide and diverse range of career opportunities.
A collaborative effort between the University of West Florida and Okaloosa-Walton Community Community, it is unique in the State of Florida. The program may be completed fully at OWCC or by completing coursework at UWF-Ft. Walton or UWF-Pensacola.
Program of Study Contract
Students complete the IH-IFA major by developing an individualized program of study tailored to particular interests and areas of emphasis. Developed and completed in consultation with the Interdisciplinary Fine Arts Director, a Program of Study Contract (PSC) represents a complete, coherent program of study consistent with the goals of the individual student. Contracts should include courses outlined in the IH-IFA core requirements, IH-IFA core electives, and sufficient IH-IFA electives to provide for grounding in two or more of the Fine and Performing Arts areas listed. Contracts should be developed no later than the first semester of study but may be altered by mutual consent at any time afterwards. The student and IFA Director will periodically review contracts.
Artistic Ability
Students are expected to have the artistic ability necessary for upper level study in the chosen areas of specialization. As students may enter the program with varied backgrounds, the IFA Program Director may identify deficiencies upon the student's entrance into the program. These deficiencies may be resolved through private study, additional courses, etc.
