Students develop the skills necessary to effectively teach learning disabled
students. There are three areas of emphasis in the course: the diagnosis of
student learning and behavior problems, procedures for implementing and
evaluating educational programs appropriate for learning disabled students, and
the development and implementation of behavior management and precision teaching
skills. Students completing this course, therefore, will be prepared to
precisely diagnose student learning problems and implement effective
individualized instructional and behavior management programs. Admitted to
Teacher Education is required. Prerequisite: EMR 4212 or EED 4230.

ELD 4940 Practicum in Teaching of Children with Learning Disabilities

Research methods in general and procedures for studying problems related to
learning disabled children. The students will identify a problem, conduct a
literature review and develop a method for studying the selected problem.
Simulated educational data, relevant to learning disability, will be analyzed
with the aid of a computer. The students will use the results to answer
questions relevant to learning disabled students.

Identification of a problem in the area of LD, review of pertinent literature
and preparation of a proposal with all the necessary information, conduction of
research in a professional manner, evaluation and written report of the results.
