Introduction to economics with emphasis on the study of aggregate economic activity, national income, price level determination, and economic growth and development. (General Studies Course: SS/SOC)

ECO 2023 Principles of Economics Micro . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Introduction to economics with an emphasis on the determination of prices in the market economy, and their role in allocating commodities and economic resources to their various users. A study of market structure and efficiency. Prerequisite: ECO 2013.

ECO 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required. With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 6-8 hours per week must be done at the field site per semester hour of credit. Permission of instructor is required.

ECO 3XX1 Internet Economics . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
With the advent of the internet and the World Wide Web has come the need to re-examine some of the basic theories in economics. For example, the way in which information about goods and services is acquired, how goods and services are bought and sold, and even the production process itself have undergone tremendous change in the so-called "new" economy. Specific topics include: externalities, theories of auctions, pricing strategies, property rights and industrial organization in an e-commerce environment. Prerequisite: ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 or ECO 3003.

ECO 3003 Principles of Economic Theory and Public Policy . . . . . 3(F,S,SS)
Survey and analysis of contemporary economic theory and public policy. Available to non-business majors only.

ECO 3101 Intermediate Microeconomics . . . . . 3(F)
Economic activity of individual economic units as consumers, resource owners and business firms. Analysis of consumer motivation as the basis of demand theory. Study of how business firms determine what to produce, how to produce at least cost, how to maximize profits, and problems of product distribution. Monopoly, oligopoly, imperfect competition, and the different market conditions for resources are studied to present how the optimum use of each resource is determined by the firm. Prerequisite: ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 or ECO 3003.

ECO 3203 Intermediate Macroeconomics . . . . . 3(S)
National income accounts. Aggregate supply and demand functions. Savings and consumption functions, the multiplier, the accelerator, marginal efficiency of capital, and determinants of interest rate. Problems of growth and full employment. Prerequisite: ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 or ECO 3003.

Monetary and financial systems of the United States; organization and function of financial institutions including the Federal Reserve System; problems of money, prices, interest, credit, national income, and employment; international finance; recent monetary and financial trends. Prerequisite: ECO 2013, ECO 2023.

Reinforcing academic preparation; confirming educational and career goals; personal and professional development; early start in career; earnings toward self-support; improved employability. (See program description under Cooperative Education). Graded on satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis only. Permission of the director of Cooperative Education is required.

ECO 4162 Risk Analysis and Management . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
Examines the nature of uncertainty as it influences business and economic decision making. Exposes students to methods for identifying, measuring and managing exposure to risk and uncertainty. Specific areas covered include new product development and marketing, securities analysis and portfolio/asset management, operation management and planning, financial analysis and capital budgeting, and political and economic risk domestically and in the global economic environment. Computer software is used to model risky environments and develop strategies for controlling and immunizing against risk using various remedies in insurance and financial engineering. Prerequisite: FIN 3403; STA 3134 or MAC 2233.

ECO 4431 Business and Economic Forecasting . . . . . 3(F)
Provides the student with alternative forecasting techniques with applications to processes that occur in business and economics. Students will learn what are the typical forecasting problems in business and economics, what are the tools that can be used for forecasting purposes, how these tools are used in practice (the mechanics), and how they are applied to particular business and economic problems (the application). Will concentrate primarily on conditional forecasts using econometric methods and time series models including smoothing methods, and Box-Jenkins ARIMA models. Prerequisite: STA 2023, ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 or ECO 3003.

ECO 4704 International Trade and Commercial Policy . . . . . 3(CALL DEPT)
Reason for trade. Analysis of U.S. exports and imports. Commercial policy, foreign investments, and changing trends in world trade. Financing and management of business ventures overseas. Prerequisite: ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 or ECO 3003.

Supervised field practicum in economics related position. May include activities in any one or more functional areas of economics (research, forecasting, business cycles, money & banking, labor, etc.). Graded on satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis only. Supervised field practicum in economics related position. May include activities in any one or more functional areas of economics (research, forecasting, business cycles, money & banking, labor, etc.). Students will be expected to perform duties with an emphasis on analysis and management appropriate for graduate credit. This will be reflected in the paper written at the conclusion of the internship. Graded on satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis only. Average 3.0 GPA in major course(s), and permission of the Internship Advisor is required. Prerequisite: ECO 2013, ECO 2023.
