TPP 1282 Voice and Movement for the Stage

Beginning course in the exploration of the sources of voice and
movement and the process of developing individual expression and
strength. Required of all theatre majors and directed primarily toward
preparation for stage work. Valuable elective for all majors.
TPP 2100 Beginning Acting . . . . . 3(3,0,0)
Introduction to the process of acting: preparation, understanding,
analysis, interaction and expression. Work is directed toward bringing a
character to life on the stage and communicating this life and
relationships with others to an audience. Intended for those with little
or no acting experience.
TPP 2190 Rehearsal and Performance . . .

Production involvement in any area of theatre performance.
Performance may include acting, directing, technical production, design,
theatre management. Open to majors or prospective majors only. Note:
University Theatre participation does not require registration for
coursework. Enrollment permission granted after consultation with
instructor.

Adapting the craft of acting to the needs of the TV or film camera.
Work in a studio on scenes, daytime serials, commercials. Permission is
required. Prerequisite: TPP 2100.
TPP 3140 Acting: Realism . . . . . 3(2,0,2)
Basic realistic acting techniques applied to the increased demands of
writers like Chekov, Ibsen, etc. Also includes Scene study, Text
analysis and Critiques. Prerequisite: TPP 1282, TPP 3155.
TPP 3155 Acting: Scene Study . . . . . 3(2,0,2)
Continued work on acting basics emphasizing scene study of
contemporary writers, exercises, critiques, discussion. Permission is
required. Prerequisite: TPP 2100.
TPP 3310 Play Directing . . . . . 3(2,0,2)
Directing for stage. Lectures and discussions followed by practical
application of procedures. Acting and related courses are required prior
to taking this course.
TPP 3711 Voice Development Laboratory . .

Using the natural voice to express the range and subtlety of
character in both prose and verse drama. Exploration of the voice as
part of the total acting gesture. Prerequisite: TPP 1282.
TPP 4141 Acting: Styles I . . . . . 3(2,0,2)
Developing the actor's historical imagination in order to create
characters in plays from Restoration, French farce, Theatre of the
Absurd, etc. Permission is required. Prerequisite: TPP 1282, TPP 3155.
TPP 4143 Acting: Styles II . . . . . 3(2,0,2)
Emphasis on creating roles using extensive study in plays requiring
skill with language. Shakespeare, Greek theatre, etc. Also includes
Scene study, Text analysis and research. Permission is required.
Prerequisite: TPP 1282, TPP 3155.
TPP 4600 Play Writing . . . . . 3(3,0,0)
Technique of play construction; practice in writing plays.
Opportunity for reading production of plays of merit.
