MAC-CALCULUS
MAC 1105 College Algebra . . . . . 3(3,0,0)
Provides the concepts and techniques of algebra that are needed to
understand subjects such as statistics and economics which contain a
considerable amount of quantitative reasoning. Is additionally a
preparatory course for the study of calculus. Major topics include: the
concept of functions, graphs of functions and relations, operations on
functions, rational functions, exponentials and logarithms, systems of
equations and inequalities, applications. Prerequisite course or
appropriate score on placement test is required. Students may earn only
3 semester hours credit toward Gordon Rule for combination of either MAC
1105 and MAC 1140 or MAC 1105/1105L and MAC 1140. (Gordon Rule Course:
Theoretical Math) and (General Studies Course: MAT/ALG) Prerequisite:
MAT 1033.
MAC 1105L College Algebra Laboratory . .
. . . 1(0,3,0)
The laboratory component of MAC 1105 reinforces discussions,
manipulative skills and problem solving techniques of college algebra
using technology. The laboratory component is intended for students who
require extra assistance and supervision to reinforce their learning.
Students may earn only 3 semester credit hours toward Gordon Rule for
combinations of either MAC 1105 and MAC 1140 or MAC 1105/1105L and MAC
1140. If withdrawing from MAC 1105 the student must withdraw from the
laboratory also. (Gordon Rule Course: Theoretical Math) and (General
Studies Course: MAT/ALG) Corequisite: MAC 1105.
MAC 1114 Trigonometry . . . . . 2(2,0,0)
Trigonometric functions, their properties and graphs, inverse
trigonometric functions, their properties and graphs, trigonometric
identities, conditional trigonometric equations; solutions of triangles,
vector algebra, parametric equations, polar coordinates, applications.
College Algebra or a strong high school algebra background is required.
(Gordon Rule Course: Theoretical Math) and (General Studies Course:
MAT/MAT). Prerequisite: MAC 1105.
MAC 1140 Precalculus Algebra . . . . . 3(3,0,0)
Stresses the aspects of algebra that are important for the calculus
sequence. Lays emphasis on graphs in the study of functions and
algebraic relations. Covers polynomials; rational functions;
logarithmic, exponential, and piecewise defined functions; inequalities;
conic sections; matrices; sequences, and series; mathematical induction.
Prerequisite course or appropriate score on placement test is required.
Students may earn only 3 semester hours credit toward Gordon Rule for
combination of either MAC 1105 and MAC 1140 or MAC 1105/1105L and MAC
1140. (Gordon Rule Course: Theoretical Math) and (General Studies
Course: MAT/ALG) Prerequisite: MAC 1105.
MAC 2233 Calculus with Business
Applications . . . . . 3(3,0,0)
Sets and functions; derivatives; areas under a curve; integration;
exponentials and logarithms; applications of derivatives and integrals.
(Gordon Rule Course: Theoretical Math) and (General Studies Course:
MAT/MAT) Prerequisite: MAC 1105.
MAC 2311 Analytic Geometry and Calculus I
. . . . . 4(4,0,0)
Introductory topics through differentiation and integration of
algebraic functions and applications. (Gordon Rule Course: Theoretical
Math) and (General Studies Course: MAT/MAT) Prerequisite: MAC 1114 and
MAC 1140 or equivalent.
MAC 2312 Analytic Geometry and Calculus II
. . . . . 4(4,0,0)
Continuation of MAC 2311. Transcendental functions, methods of
integration, further analytic geometry and applications. (Gordon Rule
Course: Theoretical Math) and (General Studies Course: MAT/MAT). Prerequisite: MAC 2311.
MAC 2313 Analytic Geometry and Calculus III
. . . . . 4(4,0,0)
Partial differentiation, multiple integration, infinite series.
(Gordon Rule Course: Theoretical Math) and (General Studies Course:
MAT/MAT) Prerequisite: MAC 2312.
