Basic principles of English composition including grammar and
mechanics, usage, paragraph unity, coherence and design, and the modes
of discourse: narration, description, exposition and argumentation. May

Continuation of ENC 1101, with emphasis on complexities of style and
rhetorical strategies. Reading in the literary genres of poetry, drama,
fiction and essay. Documented paper is included. May include additional
work in the Writing Laboratory. (Gordon Rule Course: Wrtg) and (General
Studies Course: COM/C2) Material and supply fee will be assessed.
Prerequisite: ENC 1101.

Practice in writing technical descriptions, proposals and reports.
Designed for Computer Science majors taking CEN 4020C (Gordon Rule
Course: Wrtg) Material and supply fee will be assessed.
ENC 3250 Professional Writing . . . . . 3(3,0,0)
Professional writing course relevant in business, industry,
government, and other institutional settings; major elements of written
organizational communication with emphasis on composition of letters,
memos, proposals, etc. (Gordon Rule Course: Wrtg) Material and supply
fee will be assessed. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" in both ENC
1101 and ENC 1102.
ENC 3254 Writing in the Counseling Professions

Practice in precise, descriptive, and accurate writing techniques for
practitioners in social work, psychology and other helping professions.

ENC 3310 Advanced Writing . . . . . 3(3,0,0)
Achievement of precision and coherence in expository papers, with an
emphasis on the critical analysis of literature. Intended for English
majors. Passing grade requires a satisfactory score on a nationally
normed test of proficiency in writing. Material and supply fee will be
assessed. Prerequisite: ENC 1101/1102 or the equivalent.
ENC 3342 Magazine Editing and Production

Workshop in the principles and practice of editing poetry/fiction
manuscripts for publication in The Panhandler, a national literary
magazine. Experience in computer layout (desktop publishing). Students
produce two issues of the magazine.

Alternating full-time or consecutive parallel terms of practical
experience in the intended field. Reinforcing academic preparation;
