BCH-BIOCHEMISTRY
BCH 3033 Biochemistry I . . . . . . 4(3,3,0)
A first course in biochemistry dealing with the classification,
function, and chemistry of proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids
and the smaller molecules from which they are derived. Conformational
properties of biomolecules, enzyme kinetics and mechanisms, allosterism
and cooperativity are surveyed. Two academic terms of organic chemistry
are required prior to taking this course. Material and supply fee will
be assessed for corresponding lab. Corequisite: BCH 3033L.
BCH 3034 Biochemistry II . . . . . . 4(3,3,0)
A continuation of BCH 3033. Topics include lipid and membrane
structure, and the energetics of biological systems. Emphases are placed
on intermediary metabolism, its integration and control. Material and supply fee will be assessed for
corresponding lab. Prerequisite: BCH 3033. Corequisite: BCH 3034L.
