MUE 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 2-3(VARIABLE)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required. With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 4-6 hours per week must be done at the field site per semester hour of credit.

Basics of beginning and maintaining a quality instrumental program in the secondary school. Includes all aspects of the instrumental program (marching, concert, solo and ensemble, strings, jazz, etc.).

Brass instrument playing techniques, pedagogy, literature and materials. Required of students in music education track.

MUE 4475 Percussion Methods and Materials . . . . . 2(2,0)
Percussion instruments, playing techniques , history, methodology, pedagogy and literature for solo and ensemble experiences. Observations of representative public school programs required of students planning to practice teach in band programs. Prerequisite: completion of sophomore year program requirements.

Applied conducting of vocal and instrumental music; study of baton techniques and score analysis; practical applications to performance. Problems in organization and administration of school music groups at all levels, elementary through high school.
