Provides preparation in the elements of algebra that are required for general education mathematics and statistics courses.
Covers basic principles and techniques of the following topics: factoring algebraic expressions, manipulation algebraic
fractions, radicals and exponents; complex numbers, linear, quadratic and rational equations, systems of linear inequalities
and their graphical representation, introduction to functions. Prerequisite: College preparatory algebra or appropriate score
on placement test. Credit towards Gordon Rule cannot be earned in MAT 1033.
MAT 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 1-3(VARIABLE)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and
agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must
be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required.
With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 4-6 hours per week must be done at the field site per
semester hour of credit.

Each senior, except students with the secondary track specialization shall, under the supervision of a project advisor,
independently investigate topic or topics in mathematics/statistics or mathematics education. The student shall submit a
formal written report and make an oral presentation of the results of his/her investigations. The goal of the proseminar is to
provide students with an opportunity to integrate the experience and knowledge they have gained during their
undergraduate studies. Prerequisite: Senior standing
MAT 6930 Proseminar in Mathematics . . . . . 1(0,0)
Each M.A. or M.A.T. candidate (except those who choose the thesis option), shall, under the direction of a project advisor,
independently investigate a topic or topics in mathematics/statistics or mathematics education through the study of journal
articles or other appropriate sources. The candidate shall submit a formal written report and make an oral presentation of
the results of his/her investigations. The goal of the proseminar is to provide students an opportunity to integrate the total
