EGS-ENGINEERING: SUPPORT

EGS 1007 Engineering Concepts . . . . . 3(3,0)
Introduction to the engineering profession. The engineering process from problem formulation to the evaluation of creative design is discussed. Utility and significance of computing devices in engineering practice are emphasized. Computer programming is introduced. Prerequisite: MAC 1140.

EGS 1111C Graphics for Engineering . . . . . 2(1,3)
Principles of engineering design and solutions to graphical problems as well as to learn to expand their creative talents and scientific imaginations.

EGS 2311 Vector Statics . . . . . 3(3,0)
Two-and three-dimensional equilibrium of frames, machines and trusses using vector algebra. Principles of friction, centroids, centers of gravity and area moments of inertia. Prerequisite: MAC 2312 and PHY 2048.

EGS 2321 Vector Dynamics . . . . . 3(3,0)
Vector mathematics treatment of absolute and relative motion of particles and rigid bodies in translating and rotating frames of reference. Newton's laws of motion, work-energy, impulse-momentum. Prerequisite: EGS 2311.

EGS 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 1-3(VARIABLE)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required. With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 4-6 hours per week must be done at the field site per semester hour of credit.

EGS 3613 Principles of Engineering Economy . . . . . 3(3,0)
Time value of money and discounted cash flow. Cost comparison of alternatives involving depreciation, taxes, inflation and profitability. Financial statements, break-even and minimum cost analysis and economic optimization. Prerequisite: MAC 2312.
