Journal and reflective experience paper are required. With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 6-8 hours per week must be done at the field site per semester hour of credit.

Economic activity of individual economic units as consumers, resource owners and business firms. Analysis of consumer motivation as the basis of demand theory. Study of how business firms determine what to produce, how to produce at least cost, how to maximize profits, and problems of product distribution. Monopoly, oligopoly, imperfect competition, and the different market conditions for resources are studied to present how the optimum use of each resource is determined by the firm. Prerequisite: ECO 2013 and 2023 or ECO 3003.

Examines the nature of uncertainty as it influences business and economic decision making. It exposes students to methods for identifying, measuring and managing exposure to risk and uncertainty. Specific areas covered include new product development and marketing, securities analysis and portfolio/asset management, operation management and planning, financial analysis and capital budgeting, and political and economic risk domestically and in the global economic environment. Computer software is used to model risky environments and develop strategies for controlling and immunizing against risk using various remedies in insurance and financial engineering. Offered concurrently with ECO 5167; graduate students will be assigned additional work. Prerequisite: FIN 3403 and STA 3134.
