Survey of major themes and recent findings in the area of human development across the life span. Emphasis will be on the
major transitions from fetal development through death in the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains. The
impact of ethnic, gender, and cultural factors on development will be examined.
DEP 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 1-3(VARIABLE)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and
agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must
be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required.
With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 6-8 hours per week must be done at the field site per
semester hour of credit.

Development and behavior of children from infancy to adolescence from two viewpoints: age periods (prenatal, infancy,
preschool, school) and areas (physical, intellectual, personality, etc.).

Social, emotional, biological, and intellectual elements of adolescence. Addresses the transitions from childhood to
adolescence and from adolescence to adulthood. Application of theories is stressed. Option for partial credit via field
experiences.
DEP 5055 Developmental Psychology . . . . . 3(3,0)
Representative theories of development; methodological issues in developmental research; study of research knowledge in
selected areas of developmental psychology. Prerequisite: One undergraduate or graduate course in the area of
developmental.
DEP 5165 Piaget . . . . . 3(3,0)
Piaget's observations with respect to the child's logical reasoning, the development of his/her thought and language, his/her
moral development, etc. The philosophy of Piaget is also studied as resulting from his/her observations and claims for
scientific methodology.
