BSC 1010 General Biology . . . . . 3(3,0)
Survey of abiotic and biotic principles as they apply to basic structural and functional topics at the cellular, organismal,
population and community levels; and the application of these principles to issues of current interest. (Material and supply
fee will be assessed for corresponding lab). Corequisite: BSC 1010L.

BSC 1085 Anatomy and Physiology I . . . . . 3(3,0)
General introduction to form and function of the human body. Review of basic anatomical/physiological attributes of
integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and sensory organ systems. Designed for students with little or no previous
anatomy or physiology experience. Lab optional.
BSC 1085L Anatomy and Physiology I Laboratory . . . . . 1(0,1)
Optional lab associated with course. Anatomical dissection and experimental physiology exercises that enhance
understanding of human form and function. Exercises parallel topics presented in the lecture series. Prerequisite or
Corequisite BSC 1085.
BSC 1086 Anatomy and Physiology II . . . . . 3(3,0)
Continuation of Anatomy and Physiology I. Reviews basic anatomical/ physiological attributes of endocrine,
cardiopulmonary, digestive, reproductive and immune systems. Lab optional. Prerequisite: BSC 1085.
BSC 1086L Anatomy & Physiology II Laboratory . . . . . 1(0,1)
Optional lab associated with course. Anatomical dissections and experimental physiology exercises that enhance
understanding of human form and function. Exercises parallel topics presented in the lecture series. Prerequisite: BSC
1085, BSC 1085L. Prerequisite or Corequisite: BSC 1086.
BSC 2311 Introduction to Oceanography and Marine Biology . . . . . 3(3,0)
An introduction to the chemical, physical and geological features of the world ocean and the major groups of living marine
organisms that inhabit it. Physical chemical and biological interrelationships will be emphasized. Credit not granted toward
a major in Biology.
BSC 2311L Introduction to Oceanography and Marine Biology Laboratory . . . . . 1(0,3)

BSC 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 1-3(VARIABLE)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and
agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must
be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required.
With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 6-8 hours per week must be done at the field site per
semester hour of credit.

BSC 3949 Cooperative Education . . . . . 1-2(VARIABLE)
Terms of alternating full-time or consecutive parallel terms of practical experience in the intended field. Reinforcing
academic preparation; confirming educational and career goals; personal and professional development; early start in
career; earnings toward self-support; improved employability. (See program description under Cooperative Education).
Prerequisite: permission of director of Cooperative Education.

career; earnings toward self-support; improved employability. (See program description under Cooperative Education.)
Prerequisite: Master level student; permission of director of Cooperative Education.
BSC 5265 Biological Oceanography . . . . . 4(3,3)
Non-littoral biota of the oceans, including systematics, special morphological adaptations, physiology, natural history and
zoogeography of plankton and nekton. Relationship between biota and the physiochemical properties of the pelagic realm.
Required lab. Corequisite: BSC 5265L.
BSC 5322 Coastal Plant Communities . . . . . 1(1,0)
Vegetation zones that characterize barrier islands and the coastal plain. The interplay of seedling success, dune initiation
and hurricane buffering will be presented from a research base. Restoration prospects and management concerns will be
discussed with consideration of a wide range of viewpoints. Two weekend field trips will be an integral part of the course.
