Emphasis is placed on the principles and techniques of elementary algebra including properties of numbers, linear and quadratic equations, inequalities, polynomials in one and two Variables, graphs, rational algebraic expressions, systems of linear equations, functions, roots, and radicals. Credit toward Gordon Rule may not be earned in MAC 1101. Prerequisite: Appropriate score on placement test.

Laboratory intensive college algebra course to cover topics including: exponents, radicals, complex numbers, polynomials, functions and graphs, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of equations. Students may earn only 3 semester hours credit toward Gordon Rule for combinations of either MAC 1103C and MAC 1140 or MAC 1104 and MAC 1140. Basic logic, polynomials, functions and relations, exponentials and logarithms, inverse functions, basic conic sections, binomial theorem, permutations, combinations, introduction to probability, simultaneous equations. Functions, algebraic expressions, polynomials, graphs, systems of equations, exponents and logarithms, matrices and determinants, mathematical proof. Students may earn only 3 semester hours credit toward Gordon Rule for combinations of either MAC 1103C and MAC 1140 or MAC 1104 and MAC 1140. Prerequisite: Appropriate score on placement test or grade of "C" or better in MAC 1101.

MAC 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 1-3(Variable)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required. With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 4-6 hours per week must be done at the field site per semester hour of credit.
