College Mission Statements

College of Arts & Social Sciences
The mission of the College of Arts & Social Sciences is to provide a global education for the future needs of our students and our society. Toward that end, the goals of the College are:

pursue excellence in all that we do, by maintaining standards of quality and accomplishment for ourselves and our students;
to assist students to develop global awareness, preparing them to live in a world in which each individual's life and actions affects the lives and actions of all others;
to provide students a professional base of knowledge, seeking an effective synthesis of concepts and content;
to encourage all members of the College community toward responsible activism in contributing to life and progress in the larger society; and
to maintain access to education for all who earnestly seek it.

College of Business
The College of Business aims to provide an educational experience of the highest quality in business administration at the undergraduate and graduate levels to the Northwest Florida region. Administrators and faculty aspire for business students to become educated and to succeed--to be able to understand, to reason, to communicate, and to continue to learn.

To pursue this mission, the College of Business directs its activities toward achieving the following goals:

Encourage enriched instruction in all subject areas through the active involvement of students and the continued professional development of faculty.
Enhance and broaden the curriculum to keep it future oriented through annual review.
Stimulate improved faculty research quality, productivity, and transfer to the outside world.
Foster faculty participation in professional service and activities.

College of Education
The mission of the College of Education and the professional education unit is to provide programs for the initial and continuing professional preparation of educators and to prepare students for other career fields administered within the College of Education. Professional education programs should empower individuals to think, communicate, appreciate and act with reason and effect; to make them aware that they possess the means to continue learning and to acknowledge their need to do so, as individuals and as educators. Within the context of the empowered educator, the following characteristics of educators represents the intent of the mission in the College of Education.

Empowered educators are, first and above all, learners. They are motivated to learn what is important and what contributes to their lives as learners. They seek information in order to better comprehend the educational environments in which they work and they attempt to translate that information into knowledge to solve problems.
Empowered educators demonstrate curiosity. They are willing to explore their environments, to take risks, and they seek to use analytical processes when they encounter obstacles, difficulties, or challenges. As empowered educators, they seek to learn and profit from their errors.
Empowered educators are self-directed. They are goal seeking and are predisposed to self-actualization and productivity. They study what they do and they work to correct and better themselves. They seek data about themselves and what they are doing. They are aware of their limitations and seek help when it is needed.
Empowered educators are social beings. They identify with and become empowered through interaction with knowledge and with others. They interact to promote growth of the profession and respect for people and for educational strategies that foster and improve the social conditions of society.
Empowered educators are professionals. They are active in and seek to better their profession. They work to help those with whom they have contact and to gain strength through their contacts.
Empowered educators are professionals who think, feel, and act with reason; who analyze educational policy and practice; solve educational problems; make instructional decisions; interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues and the public; effectively manage their own daily activities and behavior; engage in personal and professional development activities; and participate in activities of the profession.

College of Science of Technology
The College of Science of Technology exists to create and disseminate knowledge in diverse areas of science, mathematics, and engineering. In order to successfully meet the technological challenges of the 21st century and to serve the needs of an increasingly knowledge-based society, the college is committed to:

realizing the opportunities for rational growth and development;
providing contemporary educational programs and training in emerging technologies; and
serving as the nucleus for regional scientific and technological alliances that would promote the creation of knowledge, stimulate economic development, and improve the quality of life.
