Examination of and practical experience with current popular and commercially available microcomputer application packages which might realistically be expected to be employed in the business environment. Not open to computer science majors.

CGS 2580 Desktop Publishing . . . . . 3(3,0)
Course will illustrate the principles of desktop publishing and produce documents that demonstrate many of the features of desktop publishing. The standard project course sequence will begin with page layout, composition, and finish with the production of a document. Prerequisite: CGS 2570 or equivalent.

CGS 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 1-3(Variable)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required. With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 6-8 hours per week must be done at the field site per semester hour of credit.

CGS 3060 Science of Computing . . . . . 3(3,0)
Course provides a rigorous overview of the field of computer science. It includes an introduction to the key issues and concepts inherent in the discipline of computing: computer architecture, algorithms, problem solving, the human/machine interface, software engineering, database concepts, artificial intelligence, theory of computation, and the social and ethical context in which the field of computing exists.

CGS 3062 Computers and Society . . . . . 3(3,0)
A survey course designed to introduce non-majors to the capabilities and scope of application of modern computer systems. This is a basic computer literacy course introducing selected topics including: the evolution of computers, computer hardware and software, computer applications, databases, computer communications, information systems development, modern computer applications such as decision support and expert systems, and the social and ethical implications of computers. The course may not be taken for computer science credit by computer science majors.

CGS 3262 Computer Technology . . . . . 3(3,0)
Illustrates basic computer hardware and operating system principles of the typical personal computer systems. Descriptions and functions of each computer hardware component are presented. Emphasis is placed on current operating systems, processors, peripheral devices, networks, the internet and WWW, and other resources. Open to all majors. No prior computer knowledge required.

CGS 3464 Visual Programming . . . . . 3(3,0)
An introductory course in programming for all majors. Incorporates the basic concepts of programming, programming logic, problem solving, as well as the design features of a visual, event driven language. The student will use a visual interface to acquire skills of programming useful applications. Open to all majors, and assumes no prior computer knowledge.

CGS 3523 Computer Graphics Applications . . . . . 3(3,0)
Introduces the student to concepts of computer graphics applications, including graphics capabilities of text processing systems, paint programs, scanning and digitizing, photo enhancing, 2 and 3 dimensional systems, video and animation and internet based resources with applications and demos of a variety of software packages. No prior computer knowledge required.

CGS 3559 Exploring the Internet . . . . . 3(3,0)
Introduces the student to the Internet, using the Internet itself as the main source of information. Tools, including World Wide Web browsers, and mail programs will be presented and used. At the end of the course the student should be able to recognize the extent, advantages as well as problems involving the Internet.

CGS 3874 Multimedia Systems . . . . . 3(3,0)
Introduces the student to concepts of multimedia including hypermedia, presentation graphics, text-based systems, graphics, sound, video, virtual reality and internet-based resources with applications and demos of a variety of software packages. No prior computer knowledge required.
