Introduction to various printmaking techniques possibly including blockprinting, calligraphy, monotype, etching and engraving. Content varies according to instructor. Prerequisite for all other printmaking courses. Invites all students.

Continuation of the study of specific metal plate techniques employing color inks in the printing process. Prerequisite: ART 3470C, its equivalent or permission of instructor.

ART 2510C Painting I - Fundamentals . . . . . 3(2,4)
Students will study paint, color, the tools to use and how to use them. The student is instructed to paint using still lifes, landscapes, possible figures, and other objects/subjects. Some materials supplied. Primarily an introductory painting course for art majors. Prerequisite: ART 1300C and ART 2201C or equivalents.

Using the computer and its applications as a creative tool in the process of making art. This course is designed as a "fine arts" class, as opposed to a course stressing computer graphics. We will be exploring the creative uses involved in and issues surrounding computer generated imagery. This course will expose students to a variety of computer imagery and ideas providing a contemporary view of the digital image in art today.

Three-dimensional art processes and materials with emphasis on both relief and full round sculpture. Techniques such as: construction, carving and modeling are explored. Required (or equivalent) for all students who plan to continue with sculpture.

Second course. Various problems in three-dimensional art, exploring different techniques and materials such as: wood, stone, plaster, clay, plastics and metal. Prerequisite: ART 2701C, its equivalent, or permission of instructor.

ART 2948 Service Learning Field Study I . . . . . 1-3(Variable)
Placement in community agency or other social organizational setting related to field of study. Supervision by faculty and agency. Students and faculty "customize" courses to fit a full range of services that are available in the setting. Student must be able to draw correlation between the discipline and field study. Journal and reflective experience paper are required. With the agreement of the student's faculty sponsor, a minimum of 6-8 hours per week must be done at the field site per semester hour of credit.

Variety of handforming processes including throwing on the potters wheel. Deals with basic glazing and firing techniques. Invites all students.

Handbuilding techniques. Deals with clay in terms of functional as well as free-form design. Covers a broad range of technical information. Prerequisite: ART 3110C or equivalent.

ART 3151C Jewelry & Metalsmithing II . . . . . 3(1,5)
Advanced jewelry making techniques building on those learned in Jewelry & Metalsmithing I. Processes covered will include forging, casting and laminations of metal. Prerequisite: ART 2130C, its equivalent, or permission of instructor.

ART 3193C Crafts and Beyond . . . . . 3(1,5)
Exploration in the technical aspects of craft media with emphasis on ceramics, fiber, and metalwork processes. Required of Studio Art majors working toward Teacher Certification.

Exploration into variations of the enameling medium using a variety of techniques including cloisonne, limoges, basse-taille and champleve. Emphasis will be placed on the use of color theory and two-dimensional design and their relationship to the three-dimensional object. While there is a continuation of the development of many of the concepts of drawing from ART 3312C, this course is dedicated to the study of life drawing concepts. The human figure will be the primary subject matter. Extensive experimentation and exploration of drawing media use in relation to the figure will be stressed. Prerequisite: ART 3312C and its prerequisite, or equivalents or permission of instructor.

Use of classroom/studio situation to direct the student towards independent study.
