Political Science majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels learn to think about timeless questions pertaining to the governance of human societies, including the origin and evolution of law and justice, the development and operation of political institutions and processes, the comparative performance of regimes, the exercise of political leadership, and problems of war and peace.
The Pre-Law Specialization emphasizes American government, with special attention given to constitutional law and the judicial branch.

Common Prerequisites (6 sh)
In addition to general University requirements and General Studies requirements, students seeking the B.A. in Political Science must meet the following requirements. The average grade of mandatory core courses must be 2.0. The student must have at least 48 sh of upper-level credit.
As a prerequisite, students majoring in Political Science need to earn at least a "C" in POS 2041, or to transfer 3 sh of an equivalent lower-division course in American government or political science with a grade of "C" or better.
General Studies (36 sh)
State mandated common prerequisites must be completed prior to graduation, but are not required for admission to the program.

PRE-LAW SPECIALIZATION
MINOR
Political Science majors in the Pre-Law program must complete 30 sh of political science and pre-law specialty course work. Students may choose from selected electives in political science, history, psychology, communication arts, geography, philosophy, economics, accounting, criminal justice, computer science, and general electives. Pre-law students are encouraged to consult with Dr. Robert L. Anderson, Director.
The Minor in Political Science requires 15 sh of course work. No course with a grade below "C" will be counted toward the minor. All courses must be completed at UWF and directed studies may not be taken to fulfill requirements.
