Addresses the historical roots of mental health consultation, basic concepts in mental health consultation, the consultation process, and the various types of mental health consultation. Considerable emphasis is given to working within public school and consulting with outside agencies. Consultation is defined and contrasted to other helping relationships, and definitional issues are addressed. This course will also include a discussion of the skills and characteristics of the consultant, and ethical and legal considerations.

Basic communication skills, issues in counseling and case supervision. Emphasis on individual counseling. During the term, student is placed in a community agency for 8-10 hours per week. In addition, there is a two hour seminar and a one hour individual supervision session each week. Prerequisite: CLP 5166 (may be taken concurrently), PCO 6216, PCO 6206C and permission of instructor.
PCO 6947 Practicum in Counseling II . . . . . 3(2,8)
Individual counseling experiences with a gradual emphasis on leading and facilitating groups. During the term, student is placed in a community agency for eight to ten hours per week. In addition, there is a two-hour seminar and a one-hour supervisory session each week. Prerequisite: PCO 6946; Pre- or Corequisites: PCO 6246 and permission of instructor.
