The B.A. degree program in Middle School Education is designed for the student planning to seek certification for middle school teaching (grades 5-9). Students may choose any combination of two specialization areas (elementary education and middle school education): language arts and mathematics, language arts and sciences, language arts and social studies, mathematics and sciences, mathematics and social studies, or social studies and sciences. Each program offers opportunities for the student to recognize the child as the central figure in education, provide for exceptions among learners, and plan multi cultural educational experiences. Each specialization program also includes a sequence of school-based observations and teaching experiences designed to develop skills in planning and managing instruction and working as a member of an overall instructional team. Employment opportunities for middle school graduates continue to prosper due to a shortage of teachers in the areas of math, science, and social studies.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
In addition to general University requirements and General Studies requirements, students seeking the B.A. in Middle School Education must meet the requirements listed below.

Candidates for admission to UWF's NCATE/DOE approved teacher education programs must meet admission requirements detailed under Admission to Teacher Education. In addition to the program requirements noted below, teacher education students must also complete requirements specified under Teacher Education

Consult with your academic advisor for courses which may satisfy both the General Studies requirements and common prerequisites.

Middle school majors must include in the lower division requirements at least 9 sh of course work with international or diversity focus. Courses meeting this requirement are indicated below with an "*."
