International StudiesProgram Contact: M. Lal Goel (Director)
International Studies is a liberal arts, interdisciplinary major. It enables students to acquire understanding of domestic and international concerns facing societies beyond the frontiers of the U.S. The aim of the program is to educate students about what is common, as well as what is different, across countries and cultures in an increasingly interdependent world.
There are two International Studies options: Generalist and Area Studies. The generalist option affords students maximum flexibility. With the advice of the director, the program can be tailor-made to fit just about any student's interests.
Students may choose to concentrate on one particular region of the world. Several area studies options are available, including Asian, European, and Latin American studies. Support courses are drawn from several disciplines offering understanding of the region about which a student wishes to learn.
