    ENC 1XXXC Enhanced Composition I . . . . . 4(3,1)
      Content and requirements similar to ENC 1101. Laboratory class meeting each week provides supplemental instruction and practice in writing/ grammar for those students whose placement score indicates a need for extended classroom contact. Course is otherwise equivalent to ENC 1101 and fulfills General Studies, Gordon Rule, and ENC 1102 prerequisite requirements.

    ENC 1101 English Composition I . . . . . 3(3,0)

      Basic principles of English composition including grammar and mechanics, usage, paragraph unity, coherence and design, and the modes of discourse: narration, description, exposition and argumentation. Course may include additional work in the Writing Laboratory.

    ENC 1102 English Composition II . . . . . 3(3,0)

      Continuation of ENC 1101, with emphasis on complexities of style and rhetorical strategies. Reading in the literary genres of poetry, drama, fiction and essay. Documented paper is included. Course may include additional work in the Writing Laboratory. Prerequisite: ENC 1101.

    ENC 2313 Expository Writing . . . . . 3(3,0)

      Intensive practice in expository techniques. Emphasis upon precision, logic and clarity in written statements, ranging from sentence to theme. Course may include additional work in the Writing Laboratory. Passing grade requires a satisfactory score on a nationally normed test of proficiency in writing. Prerequisite: ENC 1101/1102.

    ENC 3240 Technical Writing . . . . . 3(3,0)

      Practice in writing technical descriptions, proposals and reports. Designed for Computer Science majors taking CEN 4020C. Prerequisite: ENC 2313 or a satisfactory score on a nationally normed test.

    ENC 3310 Advanced Writing . . . . . 3(3,0)

      Achievement of precision and coherence in expository papers, with an emphasis on the critical analysis of literature. Intended primarily for English majors. Passing grade requires a satisfactory score on a nationally normed test of proficiency in writing. Prerequisite: ENC 1101/1102 or the equivalent.

    ENC 3342 Magazine Editing and Production . . . . . 3(3,0)

      Workshop course in the principles and practice of editing poetry/fiction manuscripts for publication in The Panhandler, a national literary magazine. Experience in computer layout (desktop publishing). Students produce two issues of the magazine.

    ENC 3949 Cooperative Education . . . . . 1-2(Variable)

      Terms of alternating full time or consecutive parallel terms of practical experience in the intended field. Reinforcing academic preparation; confirming educational and career goals; personal and professional development; early start in career; earnings toward self support; improved employability. (See program description under Cooperative Education.) Prerequisite: Permission of director of Cooperative Education.

    ENC 4200 Business Writing . . . . . 3(3,0)

      Practice in writing common forms of business communication, including resumes, reports, letters and proposals. Prerequisite: ENC 2313 or a satisfactory score on a nationally normed test.
