BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAM
The communication arts program has been accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC).

The B.A. program offered by the Department of Communication Arts has been designed to offer a framework for exploring human communication and to provide practical experience in broadcasting, film, journalism, public relations, advertising and settings that require effective interpersonal, organization, and public speaking skills.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
In addition to general University requirements and General Studies requirements found in the 1996-97 Catalog, students seeking the B.A. in Communication Arts must meet the requirements listed below.

Students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.7 or above during their first 60 sh of college course work. A limited number of students may be admitted who do not meet this requirement.

Internships for a maximum of 3 sh are available in a variety of settings.

A maximum of 6 sh of lower-division course work in communication may be applied to degree requirements. No grade below a "C" in a communication arts course may be applied toward graduation.

LOWER DIVISION REQUIREMENTS (63 SH)
General Studies (36 sh)
The degree program requires that 3 sh must be completed in the areas of statistics, U.S. history since World War II, world geography, introduction to psychology or human behavior, economics, introduction to philosophy or ethics in contemporary society and English literature. It is expected that most of these courses will be taken during a student's first two years of college. Most of these courses can be used to satisfy some of the General Studies requirements.

MINOR
The department offers a minor in communication for students from other disciplines in which communication plays a vital role. The minor consists of at least 15 sh of communication arts courses. To fulfill the requirements for the minor, a student must complete 15 sh of the required courses in a program of study (i.e., journalism; radio, television, film, etc.).
