BSC-BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE
    BSC 1010 General Biology . . . . . 3(3,0)
Survey of abiotic and biotic principles as they apply to basic structural and functional topics at the cellular, organismal, population and community levels and the application of these principles to issues of current interest. (Material and supply fee will be assessed for corresponding lab). Corequisite: BSC 1010L.

    BSC 1010L General Biology Laboratory . . . . . 1(0,3)

      Lab correlating with BSC 1010.

    BSC 3949 Cooperative Education . . . . . 1-2(Variable)

Terms of alternating full-time or consecutive parallel terms of practical experience in the intended field. Reinforcing academic preparation confirming educational and career goals personal and professional development early start in career earnings toward self-support; improved employability. (See program description under Cooperative Education. Prerequisite: permission of director of Cooperative Education.

    BSC 4949 Cooperative Education . . . . . 0(Variable)

Terms of alternating full-time or consecutive parallel terms of practical experience in the intended field. (See program description under Cooperative Education.) Prerequisite: Master level student; permission of director of Cooperative Education.

    BSC 5265 Biological Oceanography . . . . . 4(3,3)

Non-littoral biota of the oceans, including systematics, special morphological adaptations, physiology, natural history and zoogeography of plankton and nekton. Relationship between biota and the physico-chemical properties of the pelagic realm. Required lab. Prerequisite: OCE 3001.

    BSC 5322 Coastal Plant Communities . . . . . 1(1,0)

Vegetation zones that characterize barrier islands and the coastal plain. The interplay of seedling success, dune initiation and hurricane buffering will be presented from a research base. Restoration prospects and management concerns will be discussed with consideration of a wide range of viewpoints. Two weekend field trips will be an integral part of the course.

    BSC 5453C Quantitative Ecology . . . . . 4(3,3)

The key topics and statistical techniques needed in ecology to explore the patterns and relationships of biotic communities are studied. Methods of spatial pattern analysis, species abundance relationships, community classification and ordination, and modeling are covered in detail. Emphasis is on the application of methods and the use of computer packages. Prerequisites: PCB 4033; STA 3023.

    BSC 5475 Scientific Illustration . . . . . 2(2,0)

Review of basic mechanical techniques used during preparation of scientific illustrations for reproduction.
