Departmental growth capacity represents a department's ability to support more students by offering more courses or raising course enrollment. The growth capacity rank identifies the departments with the greatest need of more faculty lines to support its current student credit hour load. This ranking is determined by dividing the department's weighted fall/spring student credit hours by the number of regular line-item instructional faculty in the department at the start of that academic year. These numbers are displayed in the Student Credit Hours table and the # of FTE Faculty by Tenure Status table, respectively. Departments with lower rank values have less capacity for growth based on this calculation than those with higher rank values.

      Critical Workforce-Gap Analysis: Accounting/Professional Accountancy at the undergraduate level, as well as, the Master of Accountancy both the Professional Accountancy and Taxation tracks at the graduate level, are included in the Florida Board of Governors areas of strategic emphasis. Filling the Mary Ball Washington Professor of Accountancy position will enhance current efforts to produce quality employees in these areas.

    • Accreditation Requirements

      Since a faculty member who would fill this position would hold a high level of prestige within his/her profession, as well as, hold a higher academic rank, the production of intellectual contributions will enhance the College's AQ/PQ ratio, as well as, departmental scholarly production expectations through the mentoring of other faculty members.

    • Community/Visibility

      The employee in this position is prominent in his/her profession and this position's duties include interaction with the Accounting profession and business community. Enhanced visibility for UWF and the College of Business is an inherent by-product of this interaction.

  2. Any additional information to further explain the request such as comments on evidence of quality, general education requirements, significant pressure points, Emerald Coast offerings, online courses, etc:

    This position is 35% funded by an endowment (Mary Ball Washington Eminent Scholar), with 65% being funded out of E&G funds. The area of specialty (Accounting or Taxation) is tied to the candidate and will be coordinated with the area of greatest need within the Department.

    Additionally, filling this position is in line with most of UWF's strategic priorities to include 1.1 (Fostering student learning and development...that optimize student's prospects for personal and professional success.), 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 (This strategic direction deals with "distinctive" teaching, scholarship, research and professional contributions.), 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 (These strategic priorities emphasize community engagement and service.). We will come much closer to ensuring all of these priorities are met by filling this one Eminent Scholar position.

    This is a non-tenure earning position.

  4. a. General Description of Workload Assignment:

    6 contact hours (two, three-hour courses) during each of the fall and spring semesters and 6 contact hours (two, three-hour courses) during each summer term. The appointment entails teaching and advising, research and other scholarly activities, and professional and community service. This faculty member is expected to interact with the accounting profession and business community through a variety of professional development activities, perform other normal duties as a faculty member and assist the Chairperson and Dean in other duties as mutually agreed, including enhancing the accounting and/or tax programs, as well as, assisting with recruitment of faculty.
