Departmental growth capacity represents a department's ability to support more students by offering more courses or raising course enrollment. The growth capacity rank identifies the departments with the greatest need of more faculty lines to support its current student credit hour load. This ranking is determined by dividing the department's weighted fall/spring student credit hours by the number of regular line-item instructional faculty in the department at the start of that academic year. These numbers are displayed in the Student Credit Hours table and the # of FTE Faculty by Tenure Status table, respectively. Departments with lower rank values have less capacity for growth based on this calculation than those with higher rank values.

  1. Describe how this faculty line will advance UWF's legislative and strategic priorities in the applicable categories:
    • Economic Development/Workforce Demand

      The request is for a new tenure-track faculty line in Community Health Education/Health Care Administration. Currently, health care is one of the leading workforce areas in northwest Florida and beyond. This position will be involved in increasing the leadership in the health care area of workforce development.

    • Florida Board of Governors Areas of Strategic Emphasis      

      The CHE program is identified as a "Health" area of strategic emphasis by the BOG

    • Accreditation Requirements

      Currently, none of the CHE faculty have, as their primary training and background, expertise in Health Care Administration, we minimally meet SACS accreditation for this standard. To enhance the program quality and secure SACS accreditation in this area (as well as consider additional accreditation) we will need a faculty in Community Health Education with expertise in Health Care Administration.

    • Community/Visibility

      Health care continues to be an important part of our community. Faculty who engage in work in this area will continue to improve the visibility of the University within the local community and beyond.

  2. Any additional information to further explain the request such as comments on evidence of quality, general education requirements, significant pressure points, Emerald Coast offerings, online courses, etc:

    Most notably, as previously mentioned, we do not have a dedicated faculty member serving the M.S.A. in Health Care Administration program. This is a very large (and growing) graduate program that demands much attention and needs expertise in this area to continue to improve the quality of instruction and meet accreditation requirements.

  3. If this request is for a tenure-earning position, explain why a tenure-earning position is needed:

    A tenure-track position in requested for this position as the faculty member will be very involved in graduate education and should remain active in the field through scholarly pursuits. Additionally, a tenure track position will allow the faculty member to serve on committees within the University that non-tenure track individuals are ineligible to serve.

  4. a. General Description of Workload Assignment:

    In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Community Health Education, this faculty member will be the primary advisor for the M.S.A. in Health Care Administration, produce an appropriate research agenda, and engage in community based service. Specifically, the individual will be responsible for accreditation compliance and curriculum development and oversight of the M.S.A. in Health Care Administration.



    b. Explain how the workload/courses are currently being covered by the department:

    Currently, we employ a coordinator for advising of the the M.S.A. in Health Care administration, and provide overloads to faculty teaching in the program.
